The Changing Face of the Supreme Court:  
Sotomayor’s Arrival and Stevens’ Looming Departure 

By nominating Sonya Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, President Obama changed the gender and race dynamic of the Court.  Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how much Justice Sotomayor’s arrival—and Justice Souter’s departure—will affect the decisions the Court will make.  Professor Stephen Mathis will explore the impact Justice Sotomayor is likely to have on the Court, as well as the political and jurisprudential implications of the looming retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens.
